The Liebster Award

I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award by the fantastic silence cunning exile…maple syrup blog. I am really honoured by this, I’ve only been blogging for a few months and am just grateful that I have a few followers!
Thank you so much to Niall at Silence & Cunning, please do check out his award winning blog, it’s a great site about all things cultural.
Do it. Now. Because I owe him!
The Liebster Award is intended to bring attention to new or newish blogs that don’t yet have a large following. I need to answer some questions about my favourite things, and nominate other blogs for the award. There’s a nice blog post here explaining its origins and rules. The main idea, as with other blogging awards such as The Versatile Blogger Award, is to recognise blogs you admire, and to pay it forward. I’m not usually one for ‘chain’ type posts, but I like the spirit of this one.
So here are some blogs I’m going to nominate for The Liebster Award, mostly because I love what they write and they have made me feel really welcome and supported in my new adventures in the blogosphere:
So, to the questions
1. Character
There are two I couldn’t decide on here, Harriet the Spy because she was what I wanted to be when I was a kid and Bridget Gregory from The Last Seduction because she is everything I could never be but would secretly love to be…..don’t judge me too much on that one….
2. Meal
Hot buttered toasted soda farl eaten around 10pm at night. A great Northern Irish tradition in my family that I hesitate to call ‘supper’ because that doesn’t do it justice
3. Sport
I don’t really play sport, but get in the way of me and my Wimbledon viewing and I’ll get all John McEnroe on your ass.
4. Memory
My final Christmas with my beloved and much missed parents. I have video footage but I can’t bring myself to watch it.
5. Holiday
Christmas. See above
6. Quote
‘Come clean, come good,
repeat with me the punch line ‘Just like blood’
when those at the back rush forward to say
how a little love goes a long long long way.’
From the Simon Armitage poem I Say I Say I Say. Read it, it’s breathtaking.
7. Song
I love my music so this is a hard one, but when it comes down to it, I can’t resist Van at his finest.
8. Place
The south coast of Crete. Frangokastello markets itself as having no bars, no nightlife and no jet skis and is the most beautiful place on earth. Plus, they shoot at their road signs with illegal guns….

9. Item of Clothing
A little black Laura Ashley dress that I bought for a formal when I was 21. 21 years later, it is still beautiful and it still fits. The perfect buy.
10. Animal
I have no pets, but would love a dog. When I get one, I’m going to call him Lester. It’s a great name for a dog…
11. Website
I have 3 that I visit all the time:
because what is better than bitching about celebs in bad frocks
because I hate not knowing what random TV episode that random character actor was in and when he was in it and how old he is and who he’s married to and …..I’m a bit obsessive about stuff like that
because it features some really amazing books and also because I thought I better put in something that didn’t make me look shallow and vacuous.
So to all the bloggers, I have nominated, I now ask the same questions:
1. Character (could be in film, literature, theatre, real life…. anything you like)
2. Meal
3. Sport (to play or simply watch)
4. Memory
5. Holiday (Christmas, Easter, Halloween… you know the rest)
6. Quote
7. Song
8. Place
9. Item of Clothing
10. Animal
11. Website
And remember, I’m not into the whole chain post thing, so feel free to decline the repost. I’m clearly just award hungry 😉

Yay, congratulations! This is awesome. I’m so happy that you’ve been recognized for your blog, and I want to thank you very much for listing mine. I’m very grateful!
I love all of your answers. First of all, I hope you get your dog, because Lester is a great name. I just got my first dog two years ago and he is the absolute coolest.
Also, thank you for sharing the poem and the website brainpickings! I had never heard of either of them before, but I plan on wasting some time looking at both. Thanks. 🙂
And again, congratulations! You deserve it.

P.S. Love, love, love that clip from “The Last Seduction.” (Also, if you look hard you’ll see a glimpse of a young, but still bald, Dean Norris of “Breaking Bad” fame.)

I know! We recently started watching Season 1 of Breaking Bad and I yelled ‘It’s the guy from The Last Seduction’! Obviously after that I went straight to imdb.com to check out how his career had fared in between 😉

Cathy! You’re awesome, and I’m sorry I haven’t been able to respond until now! (Actually just came back and logged on to make an explanation/apology blog post.)
Yes, I do have a couple Liebsters, but not THIS one 😉
I’ve been on WP for about a year and a half – and once I figured out that these were basically ‘chain awards’, I rarely took part. But, like I said – they’re a great way to discover new blogs, even if you choose not to participate. (I can’t wait to check out Cedar Station and Books, Baking, and Blogging! Since you like them – there’s a high probability that I will, too. Besides, another BBB! They MUST be cool! Haha)
I really only have one small problem with these – I don’t want people to follow my blog if they’re not interested in what’s on it. The whole… ‘I’m following you, so you HAVE to follow me back!’ mentality pisses me off a little. ::winks:: Uh, no I don’t. Your blog is written in Swahili, and it’s about the proper care and housing of sea turtles, sooo… I’ll pass. Thanks, anyway! Hahahahahaha
YOU didn’t think of me for that reason, AND we are already ‘virtual friends’. I’m going to do this one, and post the badge with pride!
Just give me leniency in my time frame, I’m a month behind on life!
Thank you, Cathy!!

Don’t you worry Mrs! Like I said, I’m not a chain kinda girl myself, so I don’t mind if you don’t do it. Just wanted to let a few people know that I liked their blogs and appreciated their support.
Now, this is starting to get mushy. Feck that.
Catch up on your month and I’ll catch up with your posts. Happy days x
