Yeats 2015 Giveaway!

yeats 2015 logo

This week’s Ireland month giveaway is a celebration of the greatest of Irish poets WB Yeats.

During 2015 Ireland celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Nobel prize winning poet.

Cultural events centred on Sligo, Galway, Dublin, London and in counties across Ireland are echoed in a diverse international programme. It will be rooted in Sligo, Yeats’ ‘spiritual home’ and include events to celebrate the creative legacy of his father John and his talented siblings Jack, Susan and Elizabeth.

Through the prism of one of Ireland’s greatest artists, Yeats2015 marks a moment to celebrate and promote creativity in Ireland and elsewhere, and to reconsider the role of culture, community and the arts in the contemporary world.

You can find out all about the events and projects taking place this year on the Yeats2015 website. It would make you want to have a  holiday in Sligo!

To help celebrate, I will be giving away a fabulous Where’s Willy poster by the incredibly talented Sligo based illustrator Annie West – can you find old WB among the hoards on Grafton Street? Check out the rest of Annie’s stunning work on her website.

I’ll also be sending the lucky winner a copy of Anthony Quinn’s novel The Blood – Dimmed Tide, a historical thriller with WB Yeats as it’s protagonist.

London at the dawn of 1918 and Ireland’s most famous literary figure, WB Yeats, is immersed in supernatural investigations at his Bloomsbury rooms. Haunted by the restless spirit of an Irish girl whose body is mysteriously washed ashore in a coffin, Yeats undertakes a perilous journey back to Ireland with his apprentice ghost-catcher Charles Adams to piece together the killer’s identity. Surrounded by spies, occultists and diehard female rebels, the two are led on a gripping journey along Ireland’s wild Atlantic coast.

If you’d like to enter, just comment below or tweet the post. The draw will end on Saturday 21 March at 6pm and rules are the same as my previous giveaways.

It would be lovely if you’d tell me your favourite Yeats poem in the comments too, but it’s not mandatory! Here is the man himself reading one of my favourites, The Lake Isle of Inisfree.

Good luck!

  1. I’ll go for Sailing To Byzantium – although I know Innisfree well from school! I’ve heard that Anthony Quinn book’s very very good, so fingers crossed. And I love the poster! Great prizes AGAIN, Cathy, although I REALLY love this one!

  2. My favourite has got to be “He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven”

    HAD I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
    Enwrought with golden and silver light,
    The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
    Of night and light and the half-light,
    I would spread the cloths under your feet:
    But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
    Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

    Though I also love The Wild Swans of Coole and September 1913.

  3. I studied Yeats for A Level English Lit… 8 years ago now :-/ I LOVE He Wishes For The Cloths of Heaven for that infamous line – But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
    Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

    I also liked Sailing to Byzantium and An Irish Airman Foresees His Death. I used to love poetry when I was younger, but I grew out of it throughout my teens except for what I had to study. I should look into it again. I’m loving spoken word poetry at the minute –

  4. Another great giveaway, Cathy! 🙂
    I really love Yeats’ work – he has so many great poems, but I would pick ‘The Falling of the Leaves’ as one of my favourites. The imagery is just so beautiful and vivid.
