A Begorrathon Playlist for St Patrick’s Day!

Are you planning a St Patrick’s Day celebration? Need a soundtrack for the day that’s in it tomorrow?

Then why not check out our Spotify playlist, put together for Reading Ireland Month featuring the great, the good and the questionable of Irish music. Despite the news that Boyzone and Westlife are joining forces to create a supergroup called Boylife or Westzone or something equally daft,  I promise, neither of them have made the list!

Featuring world wide stars like Van Morrison, Thin Lizzy, U2, Sinead O’Connor, Damien Rice and Glen Hansard through to lesser know bands like The Prayer Boat, Lir and The Strypes, we’ve tried to capture the breadth and diversity of modern Irish music.

SPOILER ALERT!! This playlist contains Chris deBurgh. You may want to have the fast forward button to hand…

Who are your favourite Irish musicians? Is there anyone on the playlist I should have included?

Hope you all have a fabulous St Patrick’s Day!

  1. Fun stuff, but I don’t know why you’re apologizing for Chris de Burgh — who’s done quite a lot of good among the not-so-good — when you have Val Doonican in there.

Nice to see people like Houthouse Flowers, Christy Moore and Mary Coughlan in the mix. But, wot, no Corrs?

  2. I’ve no real beef with Chris deBurgh but had to skip after a few bars of that Johnny Logan song on your playlist. New artist to me but I don’t think I’ll be looking up more.

Being a child of the 80s-ish, anything The Cranberries, Sinead O’Connor or U2 is fine. And Irish folk and pub type music is popular here in Newfoundland. Lively songs or maudlin stuff.

A sentimental personal favourite: Endearing Young Charms, which a friend sang at our wedding and which turned out to be rather prescient as like Moore’s wife, I was “stricken with illness” very shortly after tying the knot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Believe_Me,_if_All_Those_Endearing_Young_Charms
