20 Book of Summer is just around the corner!

I will be taking a little break from my usual Monday Books that Built the Blogger post as I’m starting to plan for my annual 20 Books of Summer!

Yes, it IS that time already.

Well nearly….

20 books

The weather here in Northern Ireland has been amazing for the last few weeks, blue skies, sun, no rain…yes, there has been no rain in Northern Ireland. We don’t know what to do with ourselves. So, as usual when there is a bit of sun in May and I’ve booked by summer holiday, I start planning my 20 Books.

For anyone who hasn’t taken part before, 20 Books of Summer is a reading challenge I do each year from 1 June to 3 September where I read 20 books from my TBR in three months. I just about managed to complete it last year as I read all 20 books, but didn’t manage to review them all, although I was hampered by a mid-summer change of jobs. Hopefully now that life is a bit more settled, I’ll be able to complete it in style!

I haven’t chosen my 20 books yet, but it will be the usual mix of novels, short story collections, memoirs and a couple of sneaky short ones to make my life a little bit easier! I’ll post my list in a few weeks and see who’s up for joining in this year.

As ever, there will be a 15 books and 10 books option and as previous years, a few Australians might take part and rename it the 20 books of winter! I’ll have a Master Post with a linky where you can share your reading lists and the #20booksofsummer hashtag will be buzzing again.

I do hope a few of you can join me, but if not, I’ll need all your encouragement to try and get another 20 books knocked off my never-ending pile of books!

Now, I just have to pick my 20…..

  1. I didn’t manage to join in last year but I’m definitely going to this year. Funnily enough I’ve been thinking about the books I’d like to get to this summer so this is perfect timing. I’d quite like to challenge myself to read 20 books that I’ve owned for ages and not yet read but I’m still pondering whether I would be able to squeeze some review books in around the 20 books. I’m looking forward to it anyway 🙂

  3. I’ve been too busy to blog (I still owe you a Books That Made the Blogger post; it’s mostly Enid Blyton and Agatha Christie) … but I’m hoping I can take part in this … last time I think i only managed 4 Books of Summer. I’ll try better this year 🙂

      • Haha, they’re unproven tips since I haven’t finished all 20 in a summer yet! 🙂 I’m trying to find a good balance of long/short books. But mostly I’m trying not to include a) the bottom of my TBR pile, b) books that are a bit homework-like, that I think I “should” read but am not excited about.

This year does have an added wrinkle with NetGalley though. I have a few books from publishers that need to be posted in July and August. I want to include a few on my list since they’ll need to be read/reviewed this summer, but not every NetGalley book has been a quick, enjoyable read. If I don’t include them, however, I’ll be trying to read them in addition to my summer 20… so I’m still doing the math.

Thanks so much for hosting again! 😀

  4. Thrilled that you are running this again this year Cathy and I will be joining you – my aim is to read my chosen books in the allotted time for the first time ever – and of course to support you! I will look forward to your list of twenty books

  5. Looking forward to this again this year! I’m not reading as much as I used to (working on editing my own book at the moment and other things), but I’ll go for at least 10 books. We’ll see how it goes, but I’ll get a post ready this weekend.

  6. How great that 20 Books of Summer is back! I don’t know if I’ll join this year, because I’m on the very final stages of writing my doctoral thesis. So, when I finally hand it in, I’ll be taking my first summer break in 3 years and all I can think of is swimming and enjoying a hot Spanish summer!

  7. What a lovely idea!! I need to pay more attention to my poor TBR list! I’d love to join 😊 Now I just decide whether to do 10, 15, or 20, lol! I know I’ll read 20 books by Sept, but I’ve ordered so many new releases that I want to read those too before my classes resume in August (I’m a college English professor, and I’m back in school completing my doctorate, so my fun reading comes to a slow crawl at the end of August 😢). I’ll get a list together though and up on my blog today or tomorrow then link back to you!! Thanks!
