Reading Ireland Month Week 4 Round-up!
Well, week 4 of Reading Ireland Month proved to be a little lacklustre, from my point of view. I had a lot of work still to prep for my final week and when it came to it, circumstances got the better of me and my attempts at working from home, plannng school lessons for the kids and trying to keep my anxiety in check didn’t leave much room for thinking about reviewing.
Still, I did manage to post a review of To Be A Machine by Mark O’Connell and share a great interview with Clare O’Dea, author of the brilliant The Naked Irish.
I also shared some of my favourite Irish poetry this week, with poems from Bernard O’Donoghue, Eavan Boland, Paul Durcan, Colette Bryce, Derek Mahon, Sinead Morrissey and Christy Brown.
Again, you all shared some great Irish reading related posts:
- She Reads Novels reviewed A Thousand Suns by Sebastian Barry
- Hopewell’s Library of Life reviewed My Coney Island Baby by Billy O’Callaghan
- The Old Shelter shared some quotes by WB Yeats
- Jacqui reviewed The Love Department by William Trevor – always a winner!
- The Once Lost Wanderer reviewed The Sea, The Sea by Iris Murdoch
- Virginia at Rosepoint Publishing posted a review of Stanley McShane’s Cocos Island Treasure
- Nancy Elin reviewed The Irish Writer and the World by Declan Kiberd
- What Me Read reviewed Akin by Emma Donohue
- Lynne at Fictionophile pulled together a great list of Irish Crime series which includes some really interesting writers.
- Ali at HeavenAli reviewed The Ante-Room by Kate O’Brien
- Love Books Read Books shared a review of Roar by Cecilia Ahern
And for everyone who was interested in Adele by Nicola Cassidy when I included it in my round up of fiction to look forward to, Anne at Word Herding posted a brilliant interview with Nicola that is well worth reading.
So, there’s just a few days left of Reading Ireland Month – I had nothing planned as I was supposed to be going to Houston tomorrow to promote Seamus Heaney HomePlace in the US, but as with everything, that trip has understandably been cancelled.
I’ve been reading some other booked by irish authors throughout the month so will do a quick round-up post on those before we finish on Tuesday. As always, if I’ve missed a post you’ve written, let me know and I’ll be sure to add it.
This week’s giveaway was for a copy of The Naked Irish by Clare O’Dea and Stella has chosen the winner – Rachel! I have no idea when I will be able to send out these giveaway prizes, but consider them a treat to look forward to!
Thanks, as always for your ongoing support – despite everything it’s been another great week of reading and blogging.

I am a 40 something book buying addict trying to reduce the backlog one book at a time!
It’s been great Cathy, in incredibly stressful circumstances. Thank you for doing it. I hope you are all staying safe and well.

Thank you! It’s been a welcome distraction to be honest. All good here, if suffering from a bit of cabin fever x

Thanks very much for the shoutout, Cathy. Reading Adele now and it’s fantastic. I’m sorry your trip was cancelled, but hopefully it will happen later in the year. It’s so hard to read calmly at the moment – presumably we’ll all settle into some kind of normality. Your blog continues to inspire in the meantime!

Thank you Anne! Putting in an order for Adele with No Alibis Books in the meantime. Stay well x

Thanks for hosting this Cathy – I know from experience how much time and work these things take, and you’ve done a grand job. A series of fascinating posts, and I really enjoyed the poetry. Have a gin and a lie down…. ;D

Lol – I’ve been having a wee bit too much white wine I think! Thank you, it’s been a nice distraction to be honest. Getting organised now for the 1920 Club with an Agatha Christie!

With everything that’s going on, Cathy, I think you’re doing amazing in posting all that you’ve posted lately! Round of applause for you. I have dropped the ball and didn’t finish my pick for Reading Ireland Month but it’s okay… you all have given me lots of great titles for my TBR, and the poetry has lifted my spirits!

Another great Begorrathon, Cathy, and I’ve enjoyed your poetry selections this week. What a pity about your Houston trip – I hope it’s just postponed and can happen soonish, once we wake up from this nightmare. 🙂

I’d say you’ve done amazingly, Cathy! As you’ve probably noticed my March was a complete bomb. My blog is empty. I’ve been trying to make the rounds the past couple of days to see what everyone’s been up to and to say hi! It’s been very cheering. I’m so glad you were able to continue you with Reading Ireland Month! Be happy and stay well! xo

Yayyy so happy to have won this one! 🙂 I’ve been doing so poorly at posting Irish content this month – I’m reading no fewer than FOUR Irish books right now but I don’t think I’ll finish any of them before the end of the month! Oh well. It’s been wonderful to follow along as always.
