Novellas in November Wrap Up!

Well, what a month that was!

This is the first year that Rebecca and I decided to formally host Novellas in November and your response has been amazing!

At last count, 29 bloggers have taken part, publishing a total of 85 posts. You can check out all the links here on my announcement post here. If you have taken part and aren’t on the list, let me know in the comments and I’ll add you in.

A big thanks to everyone who took part and made this into a such a successful month.

We understand that November is a busy time in the blogging calendar so it was great to see so many taking the time to read and review some novellas and also merging challenges so that Nonfiction November, Australia Reading Month, German Literature Month and Margaret Atwood Reading Month were all covered too!

We’re already making plans for next year and exploring what worked and what we can adapt so I do hope there is the same level of interest if we host #NovNov again next year.

I really enjoyed taking part this year and the short nature of the books meant that I made a good dent in the 746, knocking another 12 off the list! My favourite, without a doubt, was Train Dreams by Denis Johnson, but I enjoyed all that I read, particularly the translated fiction.

I still have a couple more novellas to review, which I didn’t get to before I ran out of time! If you are still posting about your November short reads, do let us know and we’ll add you to the master posts.

You can check out Rebecca’s wrap up post here and once again thanks to everyone who has taken part.

What was your favourite novella that you read this month? Have you read about any novellas that have taken your fancy?

  1. Congratulations on another great reading challenge Cathy. I didn’t actively participate, but I did read several novellas and anthologies made up of novellas this month. So here is a question, what is the difference between a novella and a short story?

  2. What a great selection of novellas; there are a few there that are catching my eye.
I didn’t get around to nearly as many as I had hoped. Read 2 but stalled on the third – Apple Of My Eye by Helene Hanff. You’re right about November being very crowded…..

  3. The only one I actually read this month was Daniel Polansky’s The Seventh Perfection which was a great read; a cacophony of voices, each speaking for only a few pages, coming together to create an overarching scene designed to ask questions about what it means to tell stories and how integral they are in creating the world(s) around us. I gathered up a stack of four, and I probably will still finish the other three this year, but not in time for the event proper. Nonetheless, you did a great job hosting!
