A Playlist for International Women’s Day!
Today is International Women’s Day – a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
To celebrate, I’ve put together a Spotify playlist featuring some of the best contemporary female musicians performing in Ireland today. Ireland’s women artists as bold as ever, and in recent years a flurry of promising names have ventured into different musical realms to create names for themselves. These are not your sweet folk singers in the style of Mary Black or Enya, but women who have taken the baton from performers like Roisin Murphy, the late Dolores O’Riordan and Sinéad O’Connor and are creating their own sounds.
From rap to R&B, ambient to pop, there is something here that will tantalise your ears and get your feet-tapping!
*Húp na Mná, the title of the playlist, means ‘Go Women!’ in Irish.

Thanks for an Irish women music playlist on this special day! I’ve also a list too, a woman directors movie list! Happy International Women’s Day!

Thanks Cathy, maybe this will get me out of my rut of listening exclusively to 90s Brit Pop on Spotify, which of course is 90% men! And you put the correct Cranberries song on there, what a heartbreaker.

That Cranberries song takes me right back to my final year at Uni – sometimes I find it hard to listen too although it is a blinder.

What a great list. I don’t listen to a lot of music, but I really enjoyed these clips, so will listen to some of these in full length today.
