Sunday Praise: What’s been making me happy lately?
It’s been a few weeks of big changes in Northern Ireland so here are the things that have been making me happy lately.
- The Pact is the best kind of trashy, melodramatic addictive TV that I love when I’m ironing! It’s like Big Little Lies but set in Wales with worse weather and smaller houses and I’ve two juicy episodes still to go…
- Seamus Heaney HomePlace reopened to the public on Wednesday and it was so nice to have a buzz about the Centre again. We also officially opened our new Library which is totally gorgeous and I want to move in.
- Things might be opening up again but events are still online and I really enjoyed Keith Ridgway and Jon McGregor in conversation at the International Dublin Literature Festival yesterday evening was fascinating. Both books have been moved to the top of my list!
- I had no interest in the Friends Reunion this week, but the Matt Le Blanc memes that sprung from it were absolutely hilarious. You might have to be Irish to fully get all the jokes, but safe to say, Joey from Friends is now every Irish person’s uncle!
- This week my kids finally met up with their grandparents inside and my sister came to lunch for the first time in almost 15 months. It was emotional…
- During a clear out this week, I found my Little Lebowski Urban Achiever t-shirt which I thought was lost forever!
- This week we introduced the kids to Father Ted. There is nothing better. They loved it.
- I was delighted to hear that Bernard MacLaverty is publishing a new collection of short stories later this year. His books are always a treat.
- 20 Books of Summer starts on Tuesday and we have over 100 participants! How cool is that? Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far.
- This gorgeous new track from Erland Cooper has been on endless repeat for me lately.
So, what in your life deserves some praise this week? Let me know in the comments!

I am a 40 something book buying addict trying to reduce the backlog one book at a time!
So pleased that Ireland is opening up again for you Cathy. We are still under lockdown here in Nova Scotia, but things are improving gradually.
Best wishes, Lynne

It’s been brilliant Lynne. We still aren’t taking too many risks but it was lovely to see family.

I love Father Ted! I was sad when I tried to introduce my mother to it some years back and she didn’t get the sense of humour.
I have really enjoyed MacLaverty’s short stories, so I’ll be looking out for that new book.

I brought the Joey memes to my Irish friend’s attention and it made her evening.
Glad you had the family together. And it’s every parent’s duty to teach their kids about Father Ted.

Oh gosh my younger daughter doesn’t remember Father Ted. I had to check with the older one that I had actually shown it to them and she said “Yeah of course I know Father Ted,” which was a relief.

Hi Cathy – these are some great things to be happy about. Things are really opening up here in the northeast U.S. – many people have stopped wearing masks in stores and in general. It’s a little strange to see. But we are approaching 70% of the people in our regicounty being vaccinated. I’m in the middle of shows right now, so it’s fun to see what you’re watching. You give me great ideas! Enjoy your week 🙂

Thanks Barbara! We aren’t racing out to bars or restaurants but it’s lovely to spend time with family indoors.

The library is gorgeous! Isn’t it wonderful to start going out and about again? And, so happy to hear there’s so much participation for 20 Books of Summer. I’m excited too!

The library looks stunningly beautiful.
The Pact sounds like exactly the kind of show I need right now (we’ve just gone into a seven day lockdown but I’m sure it will last longer).
I’m all ready for #20Books tomorrow, and will conveniently finish a book tonight, so I start summer/winter with a clean slate.

Hope your lockdown doesn’t go on for too long Kate.

So glad families can get together again. We saw an 85yo friend we haven’t seen for 18 months on Monday, in her garden – I will admit to a careful hug (we’ve had both our vaccinations now, which feels very good). I am also LOVING seeing how many other blog friends of mine are doing 20Books this year, so fun to see all the lists springing up! Also: THAT LIBRARY!

I am so pleased to hear that things have opened up in Ireland and that you have been able to spend some lovely time with your family. 🙂 Similarly here in England it has been wonderful to meet up inside again, enjoy an indoor pub meal and lap up the sunshine now it has eventually come out to play! 😎

You sold me on The Pact but I am not sure I can access it. I will look for it on one of the streaming services I have. I have to say, Father Ted looks like my kind of show too.

It’s on BBC iPlayer if that helps? Father Ted is a classic.

The Matt LeBlanc memes gave me life, too! 😂 If Derry Girls doesn’t offer him a cameo, they’re missing a trick…
