746 Books is 9 today!

Today marks a whopping nine years since my first post where I announced that very naïve goal of not buying any books until I’d read all 746 in my possession!

So, first things first. It’s another year done and how far on am I in that crazy challenge? Well, 2022 has been just OK on that front. I started the year at Book No 388 and my most recent review was of Book No 344, so a whopping 44 books ticked off that long, long list!

It’s not great but at least I can finally see some progress. By this time next year, I’d dearly love to make it into the 200s. That means reading 45 books from the 746 during 2023. It’s completely doable but given the fact that I’m still buying a few books here and there again AND am using Netgalley AND have to read certain new books for work, it means that progress is destined to remain slow. If I at least got into the 200s by next December, I’d count that as a win!

I have done quite well with my reading this year – I set myself a Goodreads Challenge of 100, but have currently read 105 which is pretty good going and still a few weeks of reading left in the year.

My personal challenges have also been really great this year. Despite thinking that I might have to scale back on Reading Ireland Month  I managed to persevere but a busy summer meant that I did scale back on 20 Books of Summer – only reading 15 this time round. Despite a few setbacks Novellas in November returned, co-hosted by Rebecca and hope that we can host again in 2023.

Next year I am also looking forward to my Year With William Trevor, which I am co-hosting with Kim at Reading Matters and I’m sure there will be lots of lovely challenges and reading prompts from other blogs throughout the year.

I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has viewed, read, liked, commented, tweeted, retweeted, reposted and generally supported me along the way this last year. The bookish blogging community is such a friendly one and I genuinely love the time I spend reading and interacting with all your wonderful blogs.

Here’s to my tenth year of 746 Books!

  6. Congrats on 9 years! I’m still here and reading (both books and others blogs :-D), but not commenting as much these days. Here’s to 10 and making a dent on the OG 746!!!

  7. Happy blogiversary! I have at least one set aside for Reading Ireland next year, hooray! And I wish you luck with getting to the 200s and with your William Trevor year. I’m not doing a year challenge next year for the first time in forever, though am letting Larry McMurtry spill over into January.
