Reading Ireland Month: Week Two Round Up!
Well, last week may not have brought a raft of Oscars to Ireland, but it was a great week for Reading Ireland Month posts!
I was quite surprised at the lack of Oscar love for The Banshees of Inisherin (even though I wasn’t overly impressed with it) and I really thought The Quiet Girl could pull it off.
However,I was delighted that An Irish Goodbye, a small film from Nothern Ireland won the Oscar for Best Short, and that its star James Martin, had the whole of Hollywood sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him as he accepted the gong. An Irish Goodbye is a really sweet, heartfelt short film about two brothers doing their mother’s bucket list after her death and it is currently on the BBC iPlayer if you fancy checking it out.
This week was Contemporary Literature week and I reviewed Hidden Symptoms by Deirdre Madden and Bad Day in Blackrock by Kevin Power.

I also shared not one, but two posts detailing all the forthcoming fiction I’m looking forward to this year.

I am a 40 something book buying addict trying to reduce the backlog one book at a time!
I really liked An Irish Goodbye too, sweet but not saccharine. All the performances were great.
I’m hoping to post for the Begorrathon this coming week, fingers crossed!

Yeah, I thought it trod a thin line but in the end managed not to be overly sentimental.

*chuckle* It’s good to see that William Trevor is getting so much love! I had a lucky find at the OpShop this week, a copy of Mrs Gomez and the Brethren for $3.00!

Thanks for the tip on An Irish Goodbye. I am in the US, but I found it on Youtube, so will watch it tomorrow.
